Early Development and Moroccan Roots
Born in Montreal in 1991 to parents of Moroccan descent, Bounou relocated to Casablanca at age three. He joined the youth ranks of Wydad AC in 1999 at age eight. Initially preferring to use his feet, he transitioned to goalkeeping due to his physical stature. Bounou signed with Atlético Madrid in 2012, serving primarily within the reserve squad before his promotion to the first team in 2014. Loan spells followed, most notably with Real Zaragoza, where he gained significant experience in the Segunda División. In 2016, he transitioned to Girona, playing a vital role during the team's promotion to the top flight. By 2019, he joined Sevilla, initially on loan, where he established his reputation as a specialist in cup competitions.
