Early Education and Academic Appointment
Born in 1943 in Rishon LeZion, Censor completed his higher education at the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology. He earned his D.Sc. there in 1975, working under the academic supervision of Professor Adi Ben-Israel. In 1979, he joined the department of mathematics at the University of Haifa, where he was subsequently promoted to the rank of full professor in 1989.

Censor focuses his research on computational mathematics and optimization. His work frequently addresses the mathematical requirements of Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy. He founded the Center for Computational Mathematics and Scientific Computation at the University of Haifa in 2002. More recently, his research activities have included the development of the Superiorization Methodology.
Collaborative Scholarship and Advocacy
In 1997, Oxford University Press published his book, Parallel Optimization: Theory, Algorithms, and Applications, co-authored with S.A. Zenios. Beyond his research, Censor participated in the protection of academic independence within his home country. He served as a founder of the Inter-Senate Committee of the Universities, an organization focused on the preservation of academic freedom within Israeli research universities.
