Wang Liqin started playing table tennis at age six. His rapid development in Shanghai led to his inclusion in the national squad by 1993. He reached the quarter-finals in 2003 before securing subsequent world titles at the 48th World Table Tennis Championships in Shanghai in 2005 and the 49th championships in Zagreb, Croatia, in 2007.
