Early Career and Education
Born in the 14th arrondissement of Paris in 1978, Macaigne pursued formal training in the performing arts. He attended the Conservatoire national supérieur d'art dramatique between 1999 and 2002. In 2004, Macaigne directed his first play. His theatrical output continued throughout the decade, culminating in a 2009 adaptation of Fyodor Dostoyevsky's The Idiot. Following this production, he experienced two strokes at the age of thirty. He has stated that these health events resulted in no lasting medical consequences.
Directing and Acting Achievements
Macaigne transitioned into filmmaking, gaining recognition for the short film What We'll Leave Behind. This work received the Grand Prix at the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival and secured a nomination for the César Award for Best Short Film. His acting career earned further acclaim, including a 2014 nomination for the César Award for Most Promising Actor and the Lumière Award for Best Male Revelation for his performance in La Fille du 14 juillet.
