Teko Tsholofelo Modise made his professional debut in a 1-1 draw against Bidvest Wits on 2 September 2001. A midfielder who later earned the nicknames the General, the Navigator, and Techno M, he became a defining figure in the South African Premier Soccer League, accumulating extensive accolades and 66 appearances for the national team during his career.
Early Career and Ria Stars
Born in Meadowlands on 22 December 1982, Modise was raised in Diepkloof, Soweto. His exposure to football began early through his father. Before his entry into professional ranks, he competed for amateur clubs Coventry and City Rebels. At seventeen, he joined Ria Stars. Following his league debut in 2001, his tenure was brief, as the club became defunct at the end of the season after being acquired by the league.
Ascent with City Pillars and SuperSport United
Modise transferred to Mvela Golden League side City Pillars. Over four years, he made more than 60 league appearances and received the Player of the Season award in May 2006. His performance in the Nedbank Cup, where he scored a brace against Kaizer Chiefs, preceded his move to top-flight side SuperSport United in August 2006 under the management of Pitso Mosimane.

In 2007, Modise signed with Orlando Pirates. His impact was immediate; he secured the inaugural PSL Footballer of the Year award and SAFA Footballer of the Year. During a six-year spell, he led the team to multiple runner-up finishes.
Success at Mamelodi Sundowns
Joining Mamelodi Sundowns in January 2011, Modise became a focal point of the midfield. He served as club captain during the 2012–13 season. His time with the club included five titles, the 2013-14 league trophy, and the CAF Champions League title following a victory against Zamalek. He remained at the club until his release in June 2017, having made over 150 appearances.
International Representation
Modise debuted for South Africa on 26 May 2007 against Malawi. He was part of the squad that won the 2007 COSAFA Cup, earning the Player of the Tournament award. He represented his nation at the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations, the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup, and the 2010 FIFA World Cup. On 24 May 2010, he became the fastest player to reach 50 caps, captaining the team against Bulgaria.
