Born in 1950, Warsaw-based mathematician and philosopher Stanisław Krajewski has shaped intellectual discourse through a dual focus on the rigorous foundations of logic and the complexities of Jewish life in Poland. A professor of humanities since 2012, his work bridges the divide between formal scientific inquiry and the cultural realities of post-World War II Jewish experience.
Academic Foundations and Mathematics
Krajewski completed his studies at the Faculty of Mathematics at the University of Warsaw before earning his PhD in mathematics from the Institute of Mathematics of the Polish Academy of Sciences. He later secured a Habilitation degree in philosophy from the Faculty of Philosophy and Sociology at the University of Warsaw. His teaching career began at the Bialystok branch of the University of Warsaw, where he served from 1975 until 1981, before he returned to the University of Warsaw in 1997. By 2012, he had assumed the role of chair for the Institute of Philosophy’s Scientific Council.

During the period of communist rule in Poland, Krajewski participated in dissident activities. He was an active member of the Solidarity movement from its inception in 1980 until 1990, a span that encompassed the underground operations of the union. Following the fall of the communist government in 1989, he helped establish both the Polish-Israeli Friendship Society and the Polish Council of Christians and Jews, serving as the Jewish co-chairman of the latter organization from its founding.
Cultural and Historical Contributions
Beyond his institutional roles, Krajewski held positions on the board of the Union of Jewish Religious Communities in Poland from 1997 to 2006. He served as a Polish consultant to the American Jewish Committee for seventeen years and participated in the International Council of the Auschwitz Camp Museum and Memorial between 1990 and 2006. He also contributed to the design of the post-World War II exhibition at the POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews.
Literary and Scholarly Output
His bibliography includes diverse titles ranging from his 2003 exploration of Gödels's theorem to his 2024 analysis of Jewish presence in Poland. His writing frequently addresses logic, the philosophy of mathematics, and the ethics of interreligious dialogue. In 2017 and 2018, he produced multilingual editions detailing his personal debt to Christian-Jewish dialogue. He has also co-edited numerous collections, including specialized issues on the logic of theological discourse and the foundations of computer science.
