Son Chaeyoung

The debut studio album Lil Fantasy Vol. 1, released by Son Chaeyoung in September 2025, marked a shift toward an independent musical trajectory. This South Korean rapper and singer, active since 2015, established her own label, Lil Fantasy, in August 2026 after concluding her long-standing professional association with JYP Entertainment to pursue solo creative ventures.

Early Development and Training

Born in Seoul on April 23, 1999, Son Chaeyoung engaged in modeling for children's publications during her youth. Her professional path began after she auditioned for JYP Entertainment at age 13, following a year of dance instruction. During her tenure as a trainee, she appeared in music videos for Got7 and Miss A. She later attended Hanlim Multi Art School alongside Tzuyu, completing her studies in 2019.

Participation in Twice

In 2015, Son competed on the reality television program Sixteen, finishing in sixth position. This secured her placement in the girl group Twice, which debuted on October 20, 2015, with the EP The Story Begins. Within the group, she functioned as both a rapper and vocalist. She was the first member to earn writing credits for her contribution to a rap verse on the 2016 EP Page Two. Her creative scope expanded with the Japanese album &Twice, where she contributed to the composition of the track How U Doin'.

Solo Career and Independent Label

Her solo efforts included the Melody Project series, covering songs by Cheeze, Justin Bieber, and Eddie Benjamin. In 2022, she began studying guitar, eventually performing an unreleased track titled My Guitar during the Ready to Be World Tour. Following the successful September 2025 release of Lil Fantasy Vol. 1 and its lead single Shoot (Firecracker), she engaged in collaborations with the duo Coco & Clair Clair and rapper Sokodomo. In 2026, she formalized her solo career by launching her independent label, Lil Fantasy.

Public Controversies and Fashion

In March 2023, the performer faced public criticism for wearing items featuring problematic imagery. On March 18, she appeared on MBC's Show! Music Core wearing a top displaying a QAnon slogan. Three days later, she posted an image on Instagram featuring a shirt with a swastika. She subsequently removed the post and issued an apology, acknowledging a failure to recognize the symbol's historical significance. JYP Entertainment accepted responsibility for oversight regarding the label's review processes.
