Early Professional Development

During this period, he expanded the orchestra's profile through ambitious projects like the "Towards the Millennium" concert series. His efforts coincided with the 1991 move to Symphony Hall and a focus on youth music initiatives, including the establishment of an orchestra that later transitioned under the auspices of Services for Education.
Leadership in Berlin and London
In 2002, Rattle succeeded Claudio Abbado as principal conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic, a position he held until 2018.
