Journalistic Career

Munni began her career in broadcasting in 1999 at Ekushey Television. She moved to ATN Bangla in 2003, serving as a senior reporter. Her career progressed to News24, where she held the roles of special correspondent and, as of 2016, chief news editor. Her professional work often intersects with social issues, specifically the welfare of children.

Social Advocacy and Research

In 2006, Munni participated in the UNICEF Child Rights Poetry Festival. She received the second prize at the 2009 Meena Media Awards in the television journalism category for her investigation into children using inhalants. By 2013, she served as an ambassador for the Maternal and Child Health Integrated Program, documenting success stories for the MaMoni Save the Children project across the Amjiriganj and Nabiganj Upazilas. Additionally, she served on the 2015 BRAC jury focused on tuberculosis awareness.

Literary Contributions

Her body of work includes fiction, poetry, and prose, with publications such as Jiner Konnaya, Elo Kruddho Ondhokar, and Badur o Brandy. She engaged in the Poets Translating Poets project, a collaboration with the Goethe Institute that introduced South Asian writers to German literature. During this program, she translated the works of Hendrik Jackson into Bangla. Her literary efforts were formally recognized in 2023 with the Anannya Literature Award.

Educational Background

Munni was born in Dhaka on 8 February 1969. She attended Holy Cross College before enrolling at the University of Dhaka, where she completed a degree in social sciences in 1994. Her academic foundation in sociology has informed her research projects, including collaborative work conducted with Azfar Hussain.
