Samu Aghehowa, born in Melilla on 5 May 2004, is a professional footballer who plays as a forward. After his development in the Granada youth academy, he transitioned through several European clubs before establishing a significant presence in the Primeira Liga with Porto, ultimately becoming the most expensive signing in the history of Portuguese football.
Early Career and Granada Development
The son of Nigerian refugees, Aghehowa moved to Seville during his childhood. He joined Granada's youth setup in 2021. His senior debut occurred on 6 March 2022 with the reserve side, Recreativo Granada, in a league loss against Marchamalo. He secured his first senior goal on 25 September 2022 against El Ejido. Throughout the 2022–23 season, he scored 18 goals for the B team. He signed a contract extension until 2028 before making his first-team debut on 14 August 2023, where he scored against Atlético Madrid.

In August 2024, Aghehowa joined Porto for a transfer fee of €15 million. The deal involved Porto acquiring 50% of his economic rights, with options to purchase additional percentages in 2025 and 2026. By July 2025, his total acquisition cost reached €32 million. His time at Porto saw a prolific scoring record, including a hat-trick against AVS on 28 October 2024 and goals against Manchester United in the UEFA Europa League. In February 2026, he sustained an ACL injury to his right knee against Sporting CP, concluding his 2025–26 season.
International Representation
Although eligible to play for Nigeria, Aghehowa opted to represent Spain. His international progression included appearances for the under-19 team and participation in the 2023 UEFA European Under-19 Championship in Malta. He was part of the squad that secured a gold medal at the 2024 Summer Olympics. He earned his senior international debut on 18 November 2024 in a Nations League match against Switzerland.
