Professional Playing Career
Lamouchi began his professional playing career with Alès before moving to Auxerre, where he secured a Division 1 title and the Coupe de France in the 1995–96 season. He later joined Monaco, contributing to their league title victory in 2000. His tenure in Italy included spells at Parma, where he won the 2001–02 Coppa Italia, followed by Inter Milan and Genoa. After a stint at Marseille, which included winning the 2005 UEFA Intertoto Cup, he moved to the Qatar Stars League to play for Al-Rayyan, Umm-Salal, and Al-Kharitiyath. Internationally, he earned 12 caps for the France national team, scoring once. He was included in the 1998 FIFA World Cup preliminary squad but was omitted from the final roster.

In 2012, Lamouchi took his first managerial position with the Ivory Coast national team. He led the squad to the 2014 FIFA World Cup but resigned following their group stage elimination. Returning to club management, he took over at Rennes in 2017, securing Europa League qualification before his departure in 2018. In 2019, he joined Nottingham Forest, where he was named the league's Manager of the Month for September 2019 and January 2020. Despite guiding the team to its highest league finish since 2010–11, he departed in October 2020.
Global Coaching Roles
Following his time in England, Lamouchi managed the Qatari side Al-Duhail until 2021. He later returned to British football in January 2023 to manage Cardiff City, helping the club avoid relegation before leaving at the end of that season. His subsequent career included managing the Saudi Pro League club Al-Riyadh and the Saudi First Division League team Al-Diriyah. In January 2026, he signed a contract to manage the Tunisia national team, but his tenure ended on 15 June 2026 after five matches, following a defeat to Sweden at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Mexico.
