Rudolf Stämpfli assumed leadership of the sixth-generation family printing firm Stämpfli AG in 1988 alongside his brother Peter. Based in Bern, Switzerland, he transitioned from academic studies in operations research into a diversified business career spanning the graphic arts, railway management, and national employer advocacy over the subsequent three decades.
Academic Background
Stämpfli attended school in Bern before enrolling at the University of St. Gallen, where he studied business administration and operations research between 1977 and 1982. He completed a doctoral thesis focusing on industry-specific cost calculations in the graphic arts, earning his oec. HSG doctorate in 1985. Later, he returned to formal study in 1998 to complete programs at the Stanford Graduate School of Business.

Joining Stämpfli AG in 1984, he rose to the position of President of the board of directors and currently serves as publisher of Stämpfli Verlag AG. His corporate portfolio expanded significantly beyond printing. He served as the President of the Board of Directors for BLS AG, the Bern-Lötschberg-Simplon-Bahn, from 2009 until his retirement for health reasons in November 2020. Additionally, he has held the role of Vice President of the Board of Mobiliar Holding AG since 2013.

Beyond his directorships, Stämpfli influenced national labor policy by serving as President of the Swiss Employers Association from June 2003 until July 2011.
