Early Development and Education
Born in 1997 in Tooting, Rachel Agatha Keen was raised in Croydon. Her musical foundation was laid within her church, where her parents were active participants. In 2014, Raye independently released the EP Welcome to the Winter on SoundCloud, which led to a contract with Polydor Records. She gained mainstream recognition in 2016 through collaborations, notably Jonas Blue’s By Your Side and Jax Jones’s You Don't Know Me. These tracks brought her significant chart presence while she simultaneously expanded her portfolio through songwriting credits for artists like Little Mix and Beyoncé.
Independence and Critical Success
After departing Polydor in 2021 due to disputes regarding the release of her debut studio album, Raye signed with Human Re Sources in 2022. She subsequently released My 21st Century Blues in 2023, which produced her first UK number-one single, Escapism. Her second album, the 2026 release This Music May Contain Hope, reached number one on the UK Albums Chart and featured the chart-topping single Where Is My Husband!
