Early Development and Youth Success
Born on 6 December 1988 in Navagam Ghed, Gujarat, Jadeja was raised in a Gujarati Hindu Rajput family. His father, Anirudh, worked as a security agency watchman and originally envisioned a career for his son in the Army. Despite early struggles following the death of his mother, Lata, in 2005, he pursued cricket. He earned his first Under-19 cap in 2005 and served as vice-captain during India's 2008 World Cup victory in Malaysia.

Jadeja represented Saurashtra in the Ranji Trophy and played for West Zone in the Duleep Trophy. Between 2011 and 2012, he established himself as a prolific run-scorer by hitting three first-class triple centuries, joining a rare group of players including Don Bradman and Brian Lara. His scores included 314 against Orissa, 303 not out against Gujarat, and 331 against Railways.
International Milestones
His Test debut occurred on 13 December 2012 at Nagpur against England. By March 2017, he reached the top ranking for bowlers in international cricket. He became the first Indian left-arm spinner to claim 150 ODI wickets on 22 January 2017 after dismissing Sam Billings at Eden Gardens. His international resume includes roles in the 2013 and 2025 ICC Champions Trophy squads, as well as the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup, following which he retired from T20 internationals.
Indian Premier League Career
In the 2012 IPL Players Auction, the Chennai Super Kings purchased Jadeja for $2 million. He later joined the Gujarat Lions in 2016 for ₹9.5 crores during a period when the Super Kings were banned for two seasons. In 2022, he succeeded MS Dhoni as captain of the Chennai Super Kings, though he resigned from the leadership position midway through the same season.
