Ramy Rabia made his professional debut at seventeen years old, entering the pitch for Al Ahly in 2010 against Haras El Hodoud. A Cairo native and long-time centre-back, his career trajectory reflects a progression from local academy talent to international defensive prospect, marked by a tenure in Portugal and consistent service for the Egyptian national team.
Al Ahly and Rising Status
Rabia emerged as a defensive staple under manager Manuel José de Jesus. During the 2013 FIFA Club World Cup, he filled the defensive midfielder position for the injured Hossam Ghaly. His contributions were vital in securing the Egyptian Premier League title that season. His early performance levels drew interest from several European teams, including Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund.

In 2014, Rabia moved to the Portuguese club Sporting CP for a fee of €750,000, signing a six-year deal. His time abroad was complicated by chronic health issues, including stomach surgery shortly after his arrival. He spent much of his tenure with Sporting CP B, eventually making three first-team appearances in the Taça de Portugal before returning to Egypt in 2015.
Injury Setbacks and Longevity
Upon rejoining Al Ahly in 2015, Rabia faced a series of physical challenges. Repeated knee operations in 2016 and ankle ligament damage hindered his momentum. Between 2017 and 2018, recurring groin injuries forced him to sit out for extended periods, prompting him to address public concerns regarding a potential early retirement. Despite these setbacks, he reached 337 appearances for the club.
International and Late Career
Rabia captained the Egypt under-20 side to a tournament victory at the 2013 African U-20 Championship. His header against Algeria secured the team’s path to the 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup. He later played for the under-23 team and participated in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. In June 2025, he transitioned to the UAE Pro League, joining Al Ain as a free agent.
