Early Development and Argentine Tenure
Falcao debuted for Lanceros Boyacá in the Colombian Categoría Primera B on 28 August 1999 at the age of 13. He transitioned to River Plate in February 2001 for a $500,000 fee. After progressing through the youth ranks, he made his professional debut in the 2005 Torneo Clausura. Despite severe ligament injuries in 2006, he recovered to become a consistent performer, contributing to the 2008 Clausura title win.

In 2009, he relocated to Portugal to join Porto. During the 2010–11 season, he scored 17 goals in the Europa League, setting a competition record. He subsequently joined Atlético Madrid in 2011, winning the Europa League and the Copa del Rey. In 2013, he moved to Monaco for €60 million. His time in France included the 2016–17 Ligue 1 title, followed by periods with Galatasaray, Rayo Vallecano, and Millonarios.
International Representation
Falcao debuted for the Colombia senior national team in 2007. He eventually earned over 100 caps, recording 36 goals. His tournament history includes appearances in the 2011, 2015, and 2019 Copa América. Although injury prevented his participation in the 2014 FIFA World Cup, he represented Colombia at the 2018 tournament in Russia. He served as captain between 2015 and 2021.
