The presidential inauguration of Prokopis Pavlopoulos in 2015 marked a significant transition for the Greek state, following a decade of intense parliamentary service. Born in Kalamata in 1950, he navigated a career defined by academic rigor in administrative law and sustained involvement in the New Democracy party, eventually ascending to the highest office in the country.
Academic Foundation and Legal Expertise
Pavlopoulos spent his formative years in Kalamata before moving to Athens to attend the Law School of the University of Athens in 1968. His academic progression led him to France, where he earned a DEA in 1975 and a doctorate in public law in 1977 from the Panthéon-Assas University. Returning to Greece, he embarked on a lengthy tenure as a university teacher. Beginning as a lecturer in 1980, he climbed the academic ranks to become a full professor of administrative law by 1989. He also served as an adjunct faculty member at his alma mater in Paris during 1986.
