Early Education and Military Service
Born on January 6, 1963, in Meknes, Morocco, Perrin later designated Avignon, France, as his hometown. He began his advanced studies at École polytechnique in 1982, completing his graduation in 1985. Prior to this, he fulfilled military obligations with the French Navy, gaining experience in ship navigation and piloting during a six-month deployment in the Indian Ocean.

After joining the French Air Force in 1985, Perrin earned his pilot wings the following year. Between 1987 and 1991, he served with the 33rd Reconnaissance Wing at Strasbourg, flying the Mirage F1CR on missions in Africa and Saudi Arabia. He subsequently attended the French Test Pilot School at Istres Air Force Base, receiving his license in 1993. His professional log includes over 2,500 flying hours across more than 30 different aircraft types, ranging from jet fighters to Airbus models.
Astronaut Selection and Mission
In 1996, the French Space Agency, CNES, selected Perrin as an astronaut candidate. He underwent two years of training at the Johnson Space Center in Houston. In June 2002, he launched on the STS-111 mission aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavour. Over 13 days, he participated in hardware installation and the repair of the Canadarm2 robotic arm. Following his spaceflight, he transitioned from CNES to the European Space Agency in December 2002, serving as a support astronaut for the Automated Transfer Vehicle program before leaving the corps in 2004.
