Early Career and Technical Development
Sandoval joined the grindcore band Terrorizer in 1986. During this period, he developed his abilities despite lacking a musical education. His drumming speed prompted him to adapt his technique significantly after joining the death metal band Morbid Angel in 1988. Initially unfamiliar with double bass drumming, he committed to rigorous practice to master the skill. This proficiency was later applied to the 1989 Terrorizer album World Downfall, produced during a brief band reunion.

Sandoval recorded eight albums with Morbid Angel between 1989 and 2003, beginning with Altars of Madness. His work with the band ended following a long recovery period from back surgery necessitated by a prolapsed disc in 2010. While Tim Yeung replaced him for the 2011 album Illud Divinum Insanus, Sandoval maintained that his departure was due to the band's unwillingness to wait for his surgical recovery rather than theological disagreements, despite reports citing his conversion to Christianity as the primary cause.
Later Projects and Personal Life
Following his recovery, Sandoval continued to participate in Terrorizer, contributing to albums including Darker Days Ahead, Hordes of Zombies, and Caustic Attack. In 2022, he reconnected with former collaborator David Vincent to perform with the group I Am Morbid. Sandoval identifies as a born-again Christian and is autistic. His musical style draws from the influences of Clive Burr, Dave Lombardo, Gene Hoglan, and Neil Peart.
