Early Development and Karting
Piastri began racing radio-controlled vehicles at age six. By 2011, he moved into karting at the Oakleigh Go Kart Racing Club. His junior career included winning the 2013 CIK Stars of Karting Rookies class and multiple regional titles, including City of Melbourne championships. In 2015, he relocated to Hertford, England, to pursue European racing opportunities, competing in circuits across Italy, Belgium, and Portugal.

He debuted in single-seater racing with the 2016 Formula 4 UAE Championship. By 2017, he finished as runner-up in the F4 British Championship while driving for Arden. His competitive momentum continued with a championship win in the 2019 Formula Renault Eurocup. Subsequently, he achieved consecutive titles in the 2020 FIA Formula 3 and 2021 FIA Formula 2 Championships with Prema, becoming the only driver to win these three series in successive seasons.
Formula One Career
After a period as an Alpine Academy member, Piastri joined McLaren in 2023. He made his debut at the Bahrain Grand Prix. His first podium followed at the Japanese Grand Prix. In 2024, he secured his maiden race victory in Hungary and another in Azerbaijan. By the 2026 Spanish Grand Prix, his record included nine wins, six pole positions, and 28 podiums. He is under contract with McLaren through at least 2028.
