Early Development and Breakthrough
Born Olivia Osuna on 17 April 1951 in Buenos Aires, she was the daughter of tango singer Andrés Osuna and Joy Hussey. After relocating to London at age seven, she trained at the Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts for five years. Her professional path began at 13 with stage work and minor film appearances in The Battle of the Villa Fiorita and Cup Fever. Her role as Juliet in Franco Zeffirelli's 1968 production secured her international status, earning her a Golden Globe Award for New Star of the Year.

Following her early success, Hussey moved into varied character roles. She achieved cult status through her lead performance in the 1974 slasher film Black Christmas, a foundational entry in the genre. Her television work included portrayals of Mary in Zeffirelli’s Jesus of Nazareth in 1977 and Esther in the 1979 film The Thirteenth Day. By 1990, she further solidified her reputation in horror through appearances in Stephen King's It and as Norma Bates in Psycho IV: The Beginning.
Later Career and Voice Performance
In the 21st century, Hussey took on the titular role in the 2003 film Mother Teresa of Calcutta, a project she had sought since her early work on Jesus of Nazareth. Her later filmography included the 2015 production Social Suicide. Beyond live-action performance, she established a voice acting career, providing character work for the Star Wars game series, including Rogue Squadron, Force Commander, and The Old Republic. She remained active until shortly before her death on 27 December 2024 in Burbank.
