Her academic posts were held at Saint Petersburg State University and St. Petersburg Department of Steklov Institute of Mathematics of Russian Academy of Sciences.

Among her principal contributions are Ladyzhenskaya's inequality and Ladyzhenskaya–Babuška–Brezzi condition. Mathematics accumulates without discarding: a proof from two thousand years ago is still a proof.
