Returning to competitive play on 16 February 2025 following a cardiac arrest, Nabil Bentaleb scored within four minutes of his substitution for Lille OSC. Early Development and Tottenham Hotspur
Born in Lille on 24 November 1994, Bentaleb entered the youth academy of his hometown club before moving to Mouscron in Belgium. After a trial with Birmingham City, he joined Tottenham Hotspur in January 2012. He progressed through the under-21 squad, signing a four-year contract in 2013. His professional debut occurred on 22 December 2013 against Southampton, and he subsequently became a consistent first-team presence.

In August 2016, the player moved to Schalke 04 on a season-long loan, later finalized as a permanent transfer. During his time in Gelsenkirchen, he became the first Algerian to score twice in a single Bundesliga match. He later returned to England in January 2020 for a brief loan spell with Newcastle United, appearing in the FA Cup before returning to Germany.
Return to France and Lille OSC
Bentaleb returned to French football in January 2022, signing a contract with Angers. By August 2023, he transferred to Lille OSC on a three-year agreement. Following his recovery from a cardiac event in 2024, the French Football Federation cleared him to play in February 2025. In July 2026, he secured a contract extension with Lille that runs until 2028.
International Representation
After a single appearance for the France under-19 team in 2012, Bentaleb committed his international future to Algeria in 2014. He debuted for the senior side on 5 March 2014 in a victory over Slovenia. He represented Algeria at the FIFA World Cup tournaments in 2014 and 2026, as well as the Africa Cup of Nations in 2015, 2017, and 2023.
