Born in Assela on 10 January 1994, Aman established himself as a prominent middle-distance competitor during his youth and professional years, gaining international recognition for his performance on the track.
Early Athletic Development
Aman began his trajectory in junior athletics, earning back-to-back 800-meter titles at the African Junior Athletics Championships in 2009 and 2011. His performance at the 2010 Youth Olympics in Singapore resulted in a victory in the inaugural 1000-meter race. At the 2011 World Youth Championships in Athletics, he secured a silver medal in the 800-meter event, trailing Leonard Kirwa Kosencha.

During the 2011 season, he set an Ethiopian record in the semi-final heat of the World Championships. In September of that year, he clocked 1:43.37 at the Rieti Meeting. Shortly after, at the Notturna di Milano, he defeated David Rudisha with a time of 1:43.50, effectively ending Rudisha's 34-meet win streak. This performance stood as a world under-18 record until 2025. In 2012, at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Istanbul, he claimed the gold medal, becoming the youngest athlete to achieve this status in the event.
Olympic Participation and Later Results
Aman represented Ethiopia at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London and returned to the Olympic stage for the 2016 Summer Olympics. His participation in the 2017 World Championships in London saw him finish 6th in the 800-meter final.
Suspension
Aman is currently subject to a 4-year competition ban. The sanction, which resulted from an anti-doping rule violation involving an evaded test in 2021, is scheduled to conclude in August 2028.
