59th President of Mexico

Miguel de la Madrid (1934–2012) was the 59th President of Mexico. He was born in Colima on 12 December 1934. He died in Mexico City on 1 April 2012, at the age of 78.

Miguel de la Madrid held office as President of Mexico (1982–1988), Fondo de Cultura Económica (1999–2000), Mexico presidential candidate for the Revolutionary Institutional Party (1981–1982) and minister. He was attached to National Autonomous University of Mexico.

Miguel de la Madrid received Collar of the Order of Isabella the Catholic (1985), Order of José Martí, Order of Jamaica, Order of the Aztec Eagle and Commander of the French Order of Academic Palms. He was educated at National Autonomous University of Mexico, John F. Kennedy School of Government and Harvard University.

Miguel de la Madrid married Paloma Cordero. He had one recorded child, Enrique de la Madrid. The recorded cause of death is pulmonary emphysema.
