Marouane Chamakh established a unique record in UEFA Champions League history by scoring in six consecutive matches during his tenure at Arsenal. Born on 10 January 1984 in Tonneins, France, the Moroccan forward became known for his physical stature, aerial proficiency, and ability to hold up play, eventually becoming the eleventh highest goalscorer in the history of Bordeaux.
Early Development and Bordeaux Career
Chamakh began playing football at age four with Nérac FC, later joining FC Marmandais. After attracting interest from several professional clubs in 2000, he chose Bordeaux for its facilities and proximity to his family. Following his professional debut in a 2003 Coupe de la Ligue match against Metz, he cemented his role in the senior squad under managers Michel Pavon and Ricardo Gomes. His most successful period with the club included winning the Coupe de la Ligue in 2007 and the Ligue 1 title during the 2008–09 season.

In May 2010, Chamakh signed a four-year contract with Arsenal on a free transfer. During his time at the Emirates, he featured in the 2011 League Cup final. He later played for West Ham United in 2013, appearing three times, and concluded his professional club career with Crystal Palace between 2013 and 2016. Across his club career, he recorded 74 goals in 301 appearances for Bordeaux and 10 goals in 66 matches for Crystal Palace.
International Representation
Although born in France, Chamakh chose to represent Morocco, the country of his parents. He debuted for the national team in July 2003 and served as captain for the first time in August 2010. His international career included participation in four Africa Cup of Nations tournaments—2004, 2006, 2008, and 2012—with a runner-up finish in 2004. He also earned the title of Officer of the Order of National Merit in 2004.
