Early Career and Personal Trajectory
Born Marie Charlotte Hensel in 1833, she grew up as the daughter of Catherine and Caspar Hensel, a local shoemaker. At age 14, she entered the household of French businessman François Blanc in Bad Homburg vor der Höhe, where she served as a maid. During this period, she learned to speak French. Following the death of Blanc's first wife, Madeleine-Victoire Huguelin, in 1852, Marie married François Blanc on 20 June 1854 in Paris.

The couple eventually relocated to Monaco to expand their business interests. François Blanc had been hired by Charles III of Monaco to establish a casino operation in the region. He founded the Monte Carlo Casino and later co-founded the Société des bains de mer de Monaco in 1861. Throughout this era, Marie Blanc assisted her husband in the establishment and management of these ventures, integrating herself into the social landscape of the principality.
Business Leadership and Architectural Projects
Upon the death of François Blanc in Leukerbad, Switzerland, in 1877, Marie Blanc took over the primary management of the Monte Carlo Casino. As a businesswoman, she directed significant capital into expansion, most notably collaborating with architect Charles Garnier to construct the Opéra de Monte-Carlo. In 1871, she also expanded her property holdings by purchasing the Château d'Ermenonville for her daughter, Louise.
Family and Final Years
Marie and François Blanc had three children: Louise Antoinette Sophie Marie, Edmond, and Marie-Félix. Louise married Prince Constantine Radziwiłł, while Marie-Félix married Prince Roland Bonaparte, and Edmond served as the Mayor of La Celle Saint-Cloud. Marie Blanc died in Moûtiers on 25 July 1881 at the age of 48. She was interred at the Père Lachaise Cemetery in the Grave of Blanc.
