Early Career and Domestic Success
Rojo emerged from the youth system at Estudiantes de La Plata, joining the organization at ten years old. He earned a promotion to the senior squad in 2009 after signing his first professional contract. During this tenure, he played 43 times, contributing to the club's 2009 Copa Libertadores title and the 2010 Argentine Primera División championship. He also represented the side at the 2009 FIFA Club World Cup Final in Dubai.

In December 2010, Rojo signed a five-year deal with Spartak Moscow, where he made eight appearances. By July 2012, he transferred to Sporting CP for £3.5 million. His two seasons in Portugal saw him develop into a consistent starter, scoring five goals in 49 matches. In August 2014, he moved to Manchester United for a reported £16 million. Over his seven-year association with the English club, he collected an FA Cup, an EFL Cup, an FA Community Shield, and the UEFA Europa League.
International Duty
Rojo earned 61 caps for the Argentina national team between 2011 and 2019. He was a central figure in the squad that advanced to the 2014 FIFA World Cup Final. Furthermore, he participated in the 2018 FIFA World Cup and served as a runner-up in both the 2015 and 2016 editions of the Copa América.
Return to Argentina
Following limited playing time in England, Rojo returned to his roots with a loan to Estudiantes in January 2020. In February 2021, he finalized a permanent transfer to Boca Juniors.
