Academic Formation and Early Career
Born in 1863 in Štip, Miletich pursued a rigorous path of formal education. His academic training included studies at the University of Novi Sad and Charles University. In July 1889, he earned his Doctor of Sciences in philology and Slavic philology from the University of Zagreb. His early career saw him involved in the foundation of Sofia University in 1888, where he would later exert significant influence as a faculty member and administrator.

Miletich held high-ranking institutional positions throughout his tenure at Sofia University, known formally as Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski.” He served as the university rector during two distinct terms, first from 1900 to 1901 and later from 1921 to 1922. During the 1903 academic year, he also functioned as the dean of the Faculty of History and Philology, helping to shape the academic standards of the institution.
Scholarly Societies and International Recognition
Beyond his domestic responsibilities, Miletich maintained a broad international network of professional associations. He was a member of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, and the Saint Petersburg Academy of Sciences. In 1932, he received an honorary doctorate from Comenius University. His work was characterized by proficiency in Bulgarian, Croatian, and Czech languages, which facilitated his research across Slavic studies.
