Academic Foundation
Born in 1959 in Montreal, Canada, Couture pursued her architectural training at Carleton University. Following her undergraduate studies, she continued her education at the Yale School of Architecture, where she earned a Master's degree in 1986. Her subsequent career has included numerous academic appointments, such as the Bishop Chair and Saarinen Chair at Yale University, the Muschenheim Fellowship at the University of Michigan, and the Kenzō Tange Chair for architecture at Harvard's Graduate School of Design.

In 1989, she co-founded the firm Asymptote Architecture alongside Hani Rashid. The firm's portfolio includes the HydraPier Pavilion in Haarlemmermeer, Netherlands, completed in 2002. Later major projects include the 2009 construction of 166 Perry Street, a luxury residential building in Manhattan's West Village, and the Yas Hotel Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates, finished in the same year. Earlier work includes the 1996 Universe Theater and the 1997 Aarhus Museum of Modern Art, both situated in Aarhus, Denmark.
Committees and Recognition
Couture maintains membership in the AIA and is a registered architect in New York State. She has contributed to the oversight of design standards through service on the federal government's GSA Design Excellence Peer Review Board. Additionally, she serves on the board of directors of the Architectural League of New York and the advisory board of the Builders' Association. In 2004, she and Rashid received the Frederick Kiesler Prize, acknowledging their contributions to the intersection of architecture and the arts. She is a New York Foundation of the Arts fellow.

Her body of work is documented in several volumes, including 'Hani Rashid, Lise Anne Couture: Asymptote. Architecture at the Interval', published by Rizzoli in 1995. Other authored works include 'Asymptote: Flux', published in 2002 by Phaidon Press, and 'Asymptote: Works and Projects', released by Skira in 2002. Her more recent publication, 'Asymptote Architecture Actualizations', was released in 2010 through Asia Art & Design Cooperation.
