His involvement in Beninese government began when he served as Special Adviser to President Yayi Boni between 2006 and 2011. On 18 June 2015, President Boni appointed him Prime Minister, a position assigned to oversee economic development. Zinsou later stood as the candidate for the Cowry Forces for an Emerging Benin in the 2016 presidential election. During his campaign on 27 December 2015, his helicopter crashed in Djougou, though he sustained no injuries.
Institutional and Cultural Contributions
In 2013, the Zinsou Foundation established a contemporary art museum in Ouidah, Benin, marking a significant cultural development in the region. Since June 2017, Zinsou has served as the president of Terra Nova, a French think tank focused on centre-left political discourse. His career achievements were recognized in 2025 when he was made an Officer of the Legion of Honour.
