Early Career and Education
Born in Wrocław in 1962, Czarnecki initially trained as an engineer, graduating from the Faculty of Sanitary Engineering at the Wrocław University of Science and Technology. He subsequently expanded his expertise into economics, earning a doctorate from the Wrocław University of Economics and completing the AMP programme at Harvard Business School. His early commercial ventures included the establishment of a diving company, Przedsiębiorstwo Hydrotechniki i Inżynierii TAN, in 1986.

Czarnecki built a extensive portfolio of financial institutions, serving as the main shareholder for several companies listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange. His banking activities included the development of Getin Holding and Getin Noble Bank, following the merger of Getin Bank and Noble Bank in 2010. Beyond banking, his corporate influence reached into insurance with TU Europa and financial brokerage firms such as Open Finance and Home Broker. He also managed international banking operations in countries including Ukraine, Belarus, and Romania.
Real Estate and Property Development
In 2006, Czarnecki acquired the Poltegor Centre in Wrocław for €17.5 million, which was the city's tallest building at the time. Working alongside the investor LC Corp, he managed the demolition of this site to facilitate the construction of Sky Tower. His involvement in real estate extended to the public market through LC Corp, which reached an IPO in 2007 before he sold his stake in 2017.
Professional Recognition and Philanthropy
Throughout his career, Czarnecki received multiple accolades, including the Wall Street Journal award for Best CEO in Central Europe in 1998 and recognition from the Financial Times as an emerging star of European business in 2004. He has authored five books on business models and risk management. His philanthropic efforts include the establishment of the Jolanta and Leszek Czarneccy foundation in 2007, which has received PLN 55 million in funding, and support for the Contemporary Polish Studies Programme at St. Antony's College, Oxford.
