Early Development in Toulouse
Born in 2002 in Toulouse, France, Marchand grew up in a family of swimmers, including his parents, Xavier Marchand and Céline Bonnet, and his uncle, Christophe Marchand. He began his association with the water at the Dauphins du TOEC club at age six. After an early childhood period spent focused on judo and rugby, he committed to swimming under the guidance of coach Nicolas Castel. Throughout his teenage years, he balanced his athletic progression with academic pursuits, eventually earning a scientific baccalaureate and enrolling at Toulouse III - Paul Sabatier University.

In August 2021, Marchand moved to the United States to join the swim program at Arizona State University. Seeking to work with coach Bob Bowman, he focused on sharpening his technical abilities. His tenure at the university resulted in multiple NCAA Division I titles across the 200-yard breaststroke, 200-yard individual medley, 500-yard freestyle, and 400-yard individual medley. By his final year, he helped his college team secure its first-ever NCAA championship title.
Olympic and International Performance
Marchand entered the international stage at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, finishing sixth in the 400-metre individual medley. By the 2022 World Aquatics Championships in Budapest, he established himself as a dominant force, setting European and championship records. His breakthrough arrived in 2024, where he collected gold medals in the 200-metre medley, 200-metre breaststroke, 200-metre butterfly, and 400-metre medley.
