On 2 December 2007, Kyriakos Papadopoulos debuted for Olympiacos in the Greek Super League at 15 years and 283 days old, becoming the youngest player to compete in the league. Born in Katerini in 1992, the centre-back transitioned from his hometown club Svoronos Katerinis to a professional career that spanned Greece, Germany, and several major European tournaments.
Early Career and Olympiacos
Before joining Olympiacos, Papadopoulos played for Svoronos Katerinis. In 2007, he moved to Piraeus following negotiations between his father, Nikos, and George Louvaris. His time with the club included appearing on the bench for UEFA Champions League fixtures against Real Madrid and Lazio. By September 2008, he signed a three-year contract extension containing a £4.6 million release clause.

Papadopoulos signed a four-year deal with Schalke 04 in June 2010. He made his Bundesliga debut against Hamburger SV that August. His time in Germany was marked by notable contributions in the UEFA Europa League, including goals against HJK Helsinki and Steaua București. Despite interest from AC Milan and a rejected £16 million offer from Zenit Saint Petersburg, he extended his contract with Schalke in 2012.
Injury Challenges
Physical setbacks consistently hindered his professional progression. A knee injury sustained in November 2012 against Hamburger SV sidelined him for over a year. Subsequent shoulder injuries and recurring joint issues limited his playing time, forcing him to miss the 2014 World Cup. Even after moving to Bayer Leverkusen on loan and later signing a permanent contract, similar health complications continued to interrupt his seasonal development.
Later Movements
In August 2016, Papadopoulos joined RB Leipzig on a season-long loan for a €1.5 million fee, reuniting with Ralf Rangnick. Throughout his career, he represented the Greece national team, including participation in UEFA Euro 2012 in Ukraine. Currently, his professional path has returned to his origins, as he plays for Svoronos Katerinis following a stint with Levadiakos.
