Greek association football player

Kostas Tsimikas scored the decisive penalty in the 2022 FA Cup final, securing victory for Liverpool against Chelsea. Born in 1996 in Thessaloniki, the Greek professional footballer has developed a career spanning multiple European leagues. He transitioned from his local roots to become an integral squad member for both his club side and the Greek national team.

Early Career and Olympiacos

Raised in the village of Lefkonas, Tsimikas progressed through local teams before joining Panserraikos in 2013, where he scored five goals in the Gamma Ethniki. He signed with Olympiacos, debuting in the Super League on 19 December 2015 against AEL Kalloni. His time in Greece included winning two Super League titles and the Greek Football Cup during the 2019–20 season, where he was also named the league's footballer of the season.

Loan Periods in Denmark and the Netherlands

Seeking development, Tsimikas spent time on loan at foreign clubs. He joined Esbjerg in December 2016, scoring on his debut against Sønderjyske. The following season, he moved to Willem II. During his tenure in the Eredivisie, he started 32 matches and earned the league's Rookie of the Month award for March 2018, notable for a goal scored via a spectacular scorpion kick.

Success at Liverpool

Tsimikas joined Liverpool on 11 August 2020 for a reported £11.75 million, becoming the second Greek player in the club's history. Beyond his 2022 FA Cup success, he assisted the winning goal in the 2024 EFL Cup final. On 27 April 2025, he achieved a milestone as the first Greek player to win the Premier League following a victory over Tottenham Hotspur. In August 2025, he departed for a loan spell at Roma.

International Representation

He debuted for the senior Greece national team on 12 October 2018 during a UEFA Nations League match against Hungary, providing the assist for the game's only goal. On 9 October 2025, he registered his first international goal while competing in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Scotland.
