The Imperial Academy of Arts in Saint Petersburg expelled Konrad Krzyżanowski after he entered into a direct conflict with the school's Rector over teaching methods. This event redirected the career of the future Polish painter, who became an early practitioner of Expressionism, active in various European cities including Munich, Kyiv, London, and Paris.
Early Training and European Movements
Born in 1872 in Kremenchuk, Krzyżanowski spent his youth in Kyiv, where he initiated his artistic training at the Kyiv Drawing School under Mykola Murashko. Following his departure from the Imperial Academy of Arts, he traveled to Munich in 1897 to receive private instruction from Simon Hollósy. This period of exposure to diverse European artistic environments defined his development as he transitioned between major regional centers of art.
