In 1989, Hummler joined the private bank Wegelin & Co. Two years later, he ascended to the position of Managing Partner. He remained a central figure at the institution until its dissolution in 2012. During his tenure, he held various high-profile institutional roles, including a seat on the board of the Swiss Bankers Association until 2004 and serving as the president of the Swiss Private Bankers Association from 2008 to 2011.
Governance and Institutional Influence
Beyond his banking activities, Hummler participated in broader institutional governance. Between 2004 and 2011, he served on the council of the Swiss National Bank and held a similar position at the German Stock Exchange. His media involvement included a board seat at the Neue Zürcher Zeitung from 2002 to 2011, culminating in a one-year term as president that ended in 2012. Additionally, he presided over the Chamber of Industry and Commerce St. Gallen-Appenzell until 2011.

Hummler maintains several leadership positions, including the chairmanship of M1 AG, a think tank, and the satirical publication Nebelspalter.
