A graduate of Boston College, Kofi Nahaje Sarkodie-Mensah transitioned from the New England independent circuit to a two-decade tenure in professional wrestling. Born in Kumasi, Ghana, in 1981, he established himself within the global industry by adopting the ring name Kofi Kingston, eventually becoming the first African-born world champion in the history of WWE.
Early Development and WWE Debut
Sarkodie-Mensah began training in 2005, debuting in 2006 for Chaotic Wrestling. By September 2006, he signed a developmental contract with WWE, training in Deep South Wrestling and Ohio Valley Wrestling. He briefly competed as part of the Commonwealth Connection alongside Harry Smith. In 2007, he moved to Florida Championship Wrestling. He debuted on the ECW brand in 2008, initially billed as a Jamaican performer, though he later dropped the persona to represent his native Ghana.

Drafted to Raw in 2008, he defeated Chris Jericho at Night of Champions to secure his first Intercontinental Championship. Throughout his tenure, he held the Intercontinental title four times and the United States Championship three times. In 2014, he formed the faction The New Day with Big E and Xavier Woods. The trio set a record for the longest tag team championship reign in WWE history while defending titles under the Freebird rule. Kingston achieved 16 tag team championship reigns during his WWE career.
World Championship and Career Evolution
At WrestleMania 35 in April 2019, Kingston defeated Daniel Bryan to win the WWE Championship, earning his place as the company's 30th Triple Crown Champion and 20th Grand Slam Champion. In 2022, he added the NXT Tag Team Championship to his accolades, becoming the first wrestler to complete both the traditional and tag team versions of the WWE Triple Crown. Following his 20-year run in WWE ending in 2026, he joined All Elite Wrestling.
