Keiichi Hara

Japanese anime director

A bold breach of professional etiquette launched the animation career of Keiichi Hara, who in 1959 was born in Tatebayashi, Japan. Following his graduation from Tokyo Designer Gakuin College, he abandoned an official factory tour to demand a position from an artistic director, ultimately securing his professional start by producing requested continuity drawings.

Early Career at Shin-Ei Animation

After eighteen months at a commercial studio, Hara joined Shin-Ei Animation following a recommendation by president Keijiro Kurokawa. His initial assignment was as a production manager on the television series Kaibutsu-kun. He subsequently transitioned to the popular series Doraemon, where he served as an animation director under the influence of chief director Tsutomu Shibayama. His commitment to quality, inspired by his admiration for author Fujiko Fujio, quickly established his reputation as a director to watch.
