Early Development and Education
Born in 1989 in Pécs, Hungary, Hosszú developed her skills under the guidance of her grandfather, László Bakos, until the age of 13. She attended Béla III High School from 2002 to 2008 before relocating to complete her higher education. Between 2008 and 2012, she studied at the University of Southern California, where she earned a degree in psychology.

Hosszú made her international debut at the 2004 Summer Olympics at the age of 15. Her career spanned five Olympic Games, including the 2008, 2012, 2016, and 2020 editions. Following a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter individual medley at the 2012 London Olympics, she transitioned to a new training regime under her then-husband, Shane Tusup, later working with coaches including Dave Salo, Árpád Petrov, and József Nagy.
