By 1925, she became the first athlete to reach the singles finals of the French Championships, Wimbledon, and the U.S. Championships during her career. Wallis Myers, who documented her as a world No. 2 ranked tennis player in 1923, 1924, and 1926.
Personal Life and Later Recognition
Educated at St Paul's Girls' School and St Leonards School, she married Leslie Godfree. The pair remains the only married couple to have won the mixed doubles championship at Wimbledon, achieving this feat in 1926. In 1978, she was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame. Her later years included a 1987 appearance on the television program This Is Your Life and the 1989 opening of the Kathleen Godfree Court, a residential development in Wimbledon. She passed away in London in 1992 at the age of 96.
