Early Development and Bordeaux
Koundé began playing football in December 2004 with the Fraternelle de Landiras club. After moving to Olympique de Cérons for the 2009–10 season, he eventually broke into the professional ranks. His Bordeaux debut occurred on 7 January 2018 in a Coupe de France match against Granville. Shortly thereafter, on 13 January, he made his Ligue 1 debut against Troyes. He scored his first competitive goal for the club on 10 February 2018 in a 3–2 win over Amiens.

In July 2019, Koundé transferred to Sevilla for a reported fee of €25 million. During his inaugural season, he helped the club secure the 2019–20 UEFA Europa League title and earned a place in the competition's team of the season. His tenure in Spain drew the attention of Barcelona, which finalized his transfer in July 2022. Despite initial registration delays caused by salary cap constraints, he made his club debut in August 2022.
Silverware and Tactical Adaptation at Barcelona
Success followed his move to Catalonia. He contributed to the 2023 Supercopa de España title and helped secure the La Liga championship during the 2022–23 season, scoring his first goal for the club against Espanyol. While he initially expressed a preference for the centre-back position, he later adapted to a right-back role under manager Xavi. His success continued with further titles, including the 2025 Copa del Rey, where he scored the winning goal against Real Madrid, and additional La Liga trophies.
International Contributions
Koundé earned his first senior cap for France in a pre-Euro 2020 friendly against Wales in June 2021. Later that year, he played in the 2021 UEFA Nations League final, helping France defeat Spain. He featured as a right-back for France during the 2022 FIFA World Cup, where the team finished as runners-up to Argentina, and continued his international service through the 2024 UEFA European Championship and his selection for the 2026 FIFA World Cup squad.
