He served as a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, while simultaneously working as a painter, sculptor, scenographer, theatre director, actor, and playwright. His work was characterized by a distinct theatricality and a profound engagement with the theoretical aspects of performance.
Legacy and Distinctions
Szajna received numerous recognitions throughout his life for his contributions to Polish culture. His honors include the Auschwitz Cross, the Medal of the 40th Anniversary of People's Poland, and the Zasłużony Działacz Kultury. He was appointed a Knight of the Order of Polonia Restituta and later served as a Commander and a Commander with Star of the Order of Polonia Restituta. He was also awarded the Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz Award and the honorary badge for his merits for Warsaw. Szajna died in 2008 in Warsaw and is buried at the Powązki Cemetery.
