His research focused extensively on the intersections of early Christian history and Hellenistic thought. He authored numerous works analyzing Gnosticism, Platonism, and the historical figure of Jesus, such as 'Los gnósticos' (1983) and 'Jesús, el galileo armado' (2007). In addition to his original monographs, he contributed significantly to the 'Biblioteca de Nag Hammadi' project, translating and editing various Gnostic texts. His work also explored the rational foundations of Greek cosmology and the sociological dimensions of gnosis.
Teaching and Institutional Roles
In 1976, Montserrat i Torrents joined the faculty of the Autonomous University of Barcelona, where he remained until his retirement. He ascended to the position of full professor in 1996 and was named professor emeritus in 2002. Beyond his primary institution, he served as a visiting professor at the Venice International University and the Catholic University in Chile, while also holding the position of Invited Study Director at the École Pratique des Hautes Études in Paris.
