Early Musical Foundations
Born to a Methodist family with a deep musical background, Talbot began learning the guitar during his childhood. By age 15, he withdrew from school to perform with Mason Proffit, a country folk-rock group he established alongside his brother, Terry. This period provided his initial exposure to the professional music industry before he moved toward the Jesus movement, where he and his brother recorded the album Reborn, later re-released through Sparrow Records.

After exploring Native American traditions and Buddhism, Talbot embraced Christianity. Following his first marriage to Nancy in 1971 and subsequent divorce, he converted to Catholicism in 1978. His studies at a Franciscan center in Indianapolis influenced his solo work, including The Lord's Supper and Come to the Quiet. As his output grew, he became the most successful artist in the history of Sparrow Records.
The Little Portion Hermitage
Talbot established the Brothers and Sisters of Charity, an integrated monastic community based at Little Portion Hermitage in Berryville, Arkansas. He occupies the role of General Minister and Spiritual Father for the community, which includes celibate members, singles, and families. In 1989, he married Viola Pratka with official Church permission. The hermitage experienced a significant fire in 2008, but the community successfully dedicated a new church and common center by October 2010.

Beyond his extensive discography and written works, Talbot participates in broader religious outreach. He serves as the host of All Things Are Possible, a program broadcast on the Trinity Broadcasting Network’s Church Channel.
