Corporate Tenure at BMW
Upon joining the office of Herbert Quandt, Johanna Bruhn moved from a secretarial role to serving as his personal assistant. Her tenure on the BMW supervisory board spanned fifteen years, beginning in 1982 and concluding with her retirement in 1997. During this period, she held the position of deputy chairwoman. At the time of her death in 2015, she maintained a 16.7 percent ownership stake in the company.

In 2007, an ARD documentary titled The Silence of the Quandts examined the involvement of the family's business interests during the Second World War. The film highlighted the employment of forced laborers in factories controlled by the family during the Nazi era. A subsequent study, which the family financed, confirmed links between the Quandt family operations and Nazi-era crimes. As of 2008, no site memorials or formal apologies had been established regarding these findings.
Philanthropy and Recognition
Johanna Quandt established the Johanna Quandt Stiftung to provide educational resources for business journalists and to recognize excellence in the field through annual prizes. In 2009, the German government awarded her the Commander's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. She spent her final years in Bad Homburg vor der Höhe, where she died in 2015 at the age of 89.
