Since abandoning finance in the early 1990s, Joe Bastianich has constructed a diverse business portfolio encompassing dozens of international restaurants, global food markets, television production credits, and a series of viticulture-focused publications.
Foundations and Early Ventures
Born in 1968 in Astoria, Queens, Bastianich is the son of Istrian immigrants Felice and Lidia Bastianich. He grew up working within the family business, Felidia, a Manhattan restaurant. After attending Fordham Preparatory School and completing a finance degree at Boston College, he briefly worked as a bond trader. In 1993, he shifted focus to the culinary sector, launching the restaurant Becco alongside his mother.

The partnership subsequently developed an extensive collection of dining spots, including Lupa, Esca, Casa Mono, and Del Posto. Following allegations of sexual harassment within their shared hospitality group, the partnership dissolved in 2019, with Bastianich and his sister, Tanya Bastianich Manuali, assuming full control of the entity, which was rebranded as Pasta Resources.

Bastianich expanded his public profile through television, serving as a judge on both the American and Italian versions of MasterChef, as well as Top Gear Italia and Restaurant Startup.
