Founded in 1997, Jeanne Gang’s firm, Studio Gang, has since developed a portfolio that integrates sustainable architecture with urban planning across multiple continents, focusing on ecological sensitivity and social responsibility.
Formative Education and Early Experience
Born in Belvidere, Illinois, in 1964, Gang graduated from Belvidere High School in 1982. She pursued architecture at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, earning a Bachelor of Science in 1986. Her studies included time at the École nationale supérieure d'architecture de Versailles. Later, she attended Harvard Graduate School of Design, receiving a Master of Architecture with distinction in 1993. Before establishing her own firm, she gained professional experience working with Rem Koolhaas at OMA in Rotterdam and with the firm Booth Hansen in Chicago.

Studio Gang, based in Chicago with offices in New York, San Francisco, and Paris, emphasizes urban green space and public buildings. Beyond the Aqua Tower, the firm designed the nearby St. Regis Chicago. Other notable domestic work includes the Richard Gilder Center at the American Museum of Natural History in New York, the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts expansion, and the California College of the Arts campus in San Francisco. International engagements include the United States Embassy in Brasília and the University of Chicago Center in Paris.
