He is recognized for developing the balancing domain decomposition method. Furthermore, he published convergence proofs for the FETI, FETI-DP, and BDDC methods, while also establishing the formal equivalence between the FETI-DP and BDDC methodologies.

Beyond his foundational work in numerical methods, Mandel engages in the field of dynamic data-driven application systems.
