Jan Adrian Łata

German theologian

Ordained as a Catholic priest in 1969, Jan Adrian Łata later redirected significant theological discourse within Poland by translating and introducing the work of Protestant thinkers. Born in 1944 in Biskupice Radłowskie, he pursued his education at the Papieski Fakultet Teologiczny we Wrocławiu before establishing a long-term professional base in Germany.

Academic Contributions and Translations

Łata centered his academic focus on the theology of Paul Tillich, a subject he addressed in his thesis and throughout his publication history. He translated several key works by Tillich into Polish, including segments of Systematic Theology and "In the depth is truth." By disseminating these texts alongside the ideas of Karl Barth, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, and Rudolf Bultmann, he introduced Protestant theological frameworks to a wider Catholic audience in his native country.
